What is a Colonoscopy?
This is an examination where an endoscope is inserted through the anus to directly observe the inside of the large intestine. It looks for abnormalities such as polyps, tumors, or inflammation.
Colorectal cancer and polyps are diseases that can be detected early and treated endoscopically if regular colonoscopies are performed. In 2020, colorectal cancer was the most common cancer among men and the second most common among women in Japan.
For early detection and treatment of colorectal cancer, regular colonoscopies are recommended for individuals aged 40 and over.
