We test for prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) using tumor marker (*) tests, ultrasound examinations, and questionnaires. Due to aging and the westernization of diets, prostate cancer and BPH are increasing. Recommended for men over 40, those experiencing residual urine sensation, or waking up frequently at night to use the toilet.
These are abnormal proteins produced in the body when cancer develops. Measuring their levels in the blood serves as an auxiliary test to help diagnose the presence of cancer. Exceeding the reference value does not necessarily mean cancer is present. Conversely, cancer may exist even if the value is below the reference range.
The prostate is an organ found only in men. It is about the size of a walnut, located directly below the bladder, and surrounds the urethra. It produces part of the seminal fluid and plays a role in ejaculation contraction and urine excretion.
This cancer frequently occurs in men over 50. Incidence rates are rapidly increasing due to the westernization of diets. It often progresses without noticeable symptoms and can metastasize to lymph nodes and bones. Early detection allows for shorter treatment periods and less burden on the body.
